Baghdad : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Iraq is hoped to motivate other regional leaders to visit the country and open wider doors for dialogue, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki said.

Such visit bears a number of messages that reflects a true mutual will shown by the two neighbouring countries in order to reshape a balanced relationship, Al-Maliki said in a joint press conference with Ahmadinejad, who embarked on a visit to the violence-striven country earlier Sunday.

Ahmadinejad said that Iran and Iraq will stand by each other under any circumstances.

He noted that his visit to Iraq and talks with Iraqi officials has opened a new chapter in bilateral ties. “We are confident that bilateral relations will reach the highest level in all domains,” said Ahmadinejad.

He also said that both sides should use their abundant financial and spiritual facilities to expand mutual cooperation and be complementary to each other.

The president added that in their “good and constructive” meeting in Baghdad, he and the Iraqi prime minister agreed that Baghdad and Tehran share common stances.

Ahmadinejad earlier met his Iraqi counterpart Jalal Talabani and Vice Presidents Adel Abdulmahdi and Tareq Al-Hashemi.
