“Policemen in plain clothes would be deployed keeping in mind the sensitive nature of the border” DIG, Devi Patan, Manmohan Bashal told newspersons in Bahraich, Indian national news website reported here.

“A meeting of senior officials of both the countries would be held before the elections for better coordination,” Bashal said.

A close watch is being maintained on Maoists as well as Madheshiya activists, he added.

To a question, Bashal said that preliminary inquiries confirmed that Maoists had held a meeting sometime ago to damage the Kalkalwa embankment in Bahraich and Shrawasti districts but they were not allowed to cross over.

Extra vigil is being maintained on the embankment, he added.

Earlier, local media which were forced to wait for a long time by Bashal to start the press conference gave a boycott call.

They were kept waiting for a long time by Bashal who attending to local BSP leader at the time was allocated for the press conference.

The police official later however apologised for his conduct.
