US reiterates diplomatic approach to Iran

By Xinhua

Washington : The US reiterated Wednesday that it would continue trying to reach a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issues.

“There’s no one in the administration that is suggesting anything other than a diplomatic approach to Iran,” White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

Perino denied the resignation by William J. Fallon, head of the US Central Command, was the result of a disagreement with President George W. Bush on Iran.

Fallon stepped down Tuesday as the head of the Central Command after less than a year in his job. He was in charge of US military strategy in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Bush administration claims that it has no plans to attack Iran while not ruling out any options.

The US has accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear programme. However, Iran has said its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
