During a press conference in this capital, Petkov declared he resigned to support the state and its institutions and not through weakness or foreign pressure.

Prime Minister Serguei Stanichev accepted his demission, affirmed the Bulgarian news agency BTA.

Petkov´s decisión occurred two days after debate and rejection in Parliament to the fifth motion of censure against government coalition for its alleged link to the criminal world.

Bulgaria, a member of the European Union since 2007, received last Wednesday a complaint by the community urging the application of urgent measures to fight organized crime, after the murder in that country of two well-known figures in less than 24 hours.
