Kenyan premier hails Obama nomination

By DPA,

Nairobi : Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has welcomed the nomination of Barack Obama, whose father was a Kenyan, as the Democratic candidate for the US presidency.

“It is a moment Kenyans can savour with pride,” Thursday’s Daily Nation quoted Odinga as saying. “I congratulate Senator Obama, a great son of America with Kenyan lineage.”

Obama’s father, late Barack Obama Sr., was from the village of Nyang’oma-Kogelo in western Kenya.

Many of senator Obama’s relatives, including his grandmother and uncle, still live there.

“… I am very happy for him because it is good not only for me but for all Kenyans because he belongs to them,” Obama’s grandmother Sarah Hussein Onyango told the newspaper.

Obama has only visited Kenya a handful of times, the last being in 2006.
