The government has been directed that the report should specify what led to the failure of law and order in Indore leading to riots in which seven people were killed.

The riot erupted on 4th July when the supporters of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) tried to force the bandh in the Muslim dominated areas. The bandh supporters tried to force the shopkeepers to down their shutters. The bandh was called by VHP and BJP which rules the state.

After the spread of riots curfew were imposed in Khujrana, Malharganj, Pindrinath and Chatripur areas. Khujrana and other Muslim dominated areas were badly affected by the riots, and property worth billions were destroyed in the violence which followed the riots.

More than two hundred people have been arrested in connection with the riot.
