Srinagar : Senior officials of Indian and Pakistani armies held a flag meeting Tuesday at the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Kashmir between the two countries, hours after the exchange of small arms fire between the two sides stopped in the morning.
The firing had gone on through the night, after Pakistani soldiers moved across the LoC in the Nowgam area of North Kashmir Monday, triggering a gunfight in which one Indian and four Pakistani soldiers were killed.
“After yesterday’s ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops and the resulting heavy exchange of gunfire in which one of our soldiers was killed, the fire exchanges between the two sides continued for the whole night and stopped only today morning,” army sources told IANS at the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir here.
The flag meeting took place at Titwal in the Tangdhar sector of the LOC in north Kashmir.
“The meeting started at 12 noon and ended after one hour,” the sources said, without divulging any more details of what happened at the meeting.
A group of around 15 Pakistani soldiers had crossed over to the Indian side in Nowgam sector of the LoC Monday afternoon in blatant violation of the 2003 ceasefire announced by the two countries.
One soldier of 22 Rajput Rifles was killed by the Pakistani intruders and four Pakistani soldiers were killed as the Indians fired back.
