Iraq bank robbers snatch $282 million

Baghdad/New York : Guards at a bank in Baghdad made off with $282 million in greenbacks, The New York Times reported Thursday.

The robbery occurred Wednesday at the Dar Es Salaam bank in Baghdad, a private institution, the newspaper reported, quoting an official at the interior ministry.

Local police and ministry officials said the stolen money was in US dollars, and there were questions about why the bank had so much money on hand and how the thieves made it through the various checkpoints.
