Jammu and Kashmir police stopped trucks carrying fruits and fired tear gas shells to disperse the fruit growers, who were trying to organise the march, news agency Press Trust of India reported. Police and paramilitary forces fired in the air to restore normalcy. More than 100 fruit growers were detained, the news agency said. Some organisations including traders and separatist groups had decided to organise the march following an agitation over a land transfer issue in the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir over the past few weeks. Police and security personnel have been deployed in large numbers in several townships to prevent any untoward incident.

The Indian government has assured to address the issue.
