VHP activists block roads in Nagpur

Nagpur : Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists staged road blockades at four prominent intersections in this second capital city of Maharashtra as part of their organisation’s nationwide agitation for re-allotment of land to the Amarnath shrine board in Jammu and Kashmir.

Nearly 500 VHP activists, including women, blocked traffic at Rana Pratap Nagar, Kamal Talkies, Cotton Market and Lakshmi Bhuvan squares by burning tyres and putting up other obstacles in the middle of roads.

The police detained 89 VHP activists, including their leaders Hemant Jambhekar and Subodh Acharya, police sources said.

Similar protest was staged at Sawangi Meghe near Wardha on the national highway number 7. No untoward incident was reported from any of these places.
