After defeat, Collingwood unsure of his future as T20 captain

London : Paul Collingwood is unsure of his future as England's captain in the shortest format after being knocked out of the ICC World Twenty20 by the West Indies, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

Speaking after England lost to the West Indies by five wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis method in the Super Eights, Collingwood twice stopped short of saying that he wants to retain the job, The Times reported.

"I don't know. I don't even know when our next Twenty20 game is. I have not thought about it," the England skipper said.

England crash out as West Indies enter semi-finals

London : England were knocked out of the World Twenty20, as the West Indies moved into the semi-finals with a five-wicket win over the hosts, via the Duckworth Lewis Method, in a crucial Group E match of the Super Eight stage at The Oval here Monday.

Brief scores: England 161/6 in 20 overs (Ravi Bopara 55, Kevin Pietersen 31; Dwayne Bravo 2/30). West Indies 82/5 in 8.2 overs (Ramnaresh Sarwan 19 not out, Dwayne Bravo 18).

Dhoni effigy burnt in hometown after India out of Twenty20

Ranchi : Cricket fans in the Jharkhand capital Monday burnt Indian cricket captain and city boy Mahendra Singh Dhoni in effigy to protest India's exit from the ICC Twenty20 world cup following successive defeats in matches against the West Indies and England.

Around 50 cricket fans, mostly youth, gathered near Siddo Kanhu park and shouted slogans against Dhoni.

The protesters also burnt Dhoni in effigy. "Dhoni took the T20 world cup lightly. It seems Dhoni is more fascinated by glamour world instead of cricket," said Shyama Kumar, one of the protesters.

Dhoni apologises to Indian fans, promises to fire again

London : Indian captain M.S. Dhoni apologized to Indian cricket fans after crashing out of the ICC Twenty20 championship Sunday but rejected suggestions that exhaustion from playing too many games caused the failure of his top batsmen.

"We are sorry for what happened but we can say we gave our best," Dhoni told a news conference after losing to England by three wickets before thousands of Indian supporters at Lord's cricket ground in London.

"We had experienced guys who can handle the pressure. It was a day when nothing much worked for us."

India crash out of World Twenty20 by three runs

London : England inflicted a heart-wrenching three-run defeat on India to send the defending champions crashing out of the World Twenty20 at Lords's here Sunday.

Set to score 154 in 20 overs in their crucial Group E Super Eights match, India could manage only 150 for five and were eliminated from the tournament, having lost an earlier Super Eights match against the West Indies by seven wickets.

Man of the Match Side Ryanbottom and Graeme Swann picked up two wickets each.

Not interested in becoming Hockey India president: Gill

New Delhi : K.P.S Gill, who was sacked as the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) president last year, might be back in the fold after the IHF and Hockey India joined hands Sunday, but says he is not "interested" in heading the new body.

"I am not interested to become the president. If they want any help from me, then I have a road-map for the sport and I will be happy to share my views," Gill told IANS.

Gill-led IHF was superseded by Indian Olympic Association (IOA) after its then secretary general K. Jothikumaran was caught in a cash-for-selection scandal last April.

Sania loses Birmingham tennis semifinal

Birmingham: India's Sania Mirza blew a set advantage against Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova to go down 6-3, 0-6, 3-6 in the Aegon Classic tennis semifinal here Saturday.

Sania, who had beaten Rybarikova in their only meeting before, was appearing in only her second semifinal of the year. She had reached the Pattaya Open final in February.

The 22-year-old Hyderabadi, who played two matches Friday, recovered from a break down in the fourth game of the first set and then reeled off four games in a row for a 5-2 lead. She then comfortably served out the set in the ninth game.

West Indies opt to bowl against South Africa

London : West Indies captain Chris Gayle won the toss and asked South Africa to bat in a Group E match of the Super Eight stage in the World Twenty20 at the Oval here Saturday.
