With Mahmood Madani’s support, Badruddin Ajmal is back with a bang

New Delhi: Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is back with a bang. Within 24 hours of his sacking as the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind’s Assam unit, he called a meeting of his supporters within the state Jamiat and formed another JUH, calling his sacking by Arshad Madani “illegal.” But behind his smile while announcing his Jamiat today in New Delhi lies the support of Mahmood Madani, on whom this Mumbai based perfume baron is banking for support in the coming state assembly elections.

Talking about Mahmood Madani’s support to him after Arshad Madani sacked him from his faction of JUH on February 9, Mr. Ajmal told to TwoCircles.net: “I am in continuous touch with Mahmood Madani. He has promised his support.”

Mr. Ajmal, who presides over AIUDF, a political party in Assam, went with the Arshad Madani’s faction of JUH, when in 2008 it got split between Mahmood Madani and Arshad Madani, the nephew and uncle from the Madani family which formed the largest organization of Ulema in the country before Independence.

In an exclusive interview with TwoCircles.net, this lone AIUDF MP from Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency in Assam alleged that Congress government had been resorting to every trick in order to weaken what he called “voice of Muslims in the state.”

“The latest unfortunate developments should be seen in the context that CM Gogoi quite well knows that Muslims and other marginalized sections of Assam have sided with AIUDF. Now he is making every attempt to weaken the party as a political force,” said Ajmal.

Mr. Ajmal also alleged that Congress had a pack with Mr. Arshad Madani which prompted the move to “dismiss” him and dissolve JUH’s state unit.

But he loudly claimed that the move will not work for the Congress and Muslims will remain united behind AIUDF. In fact he claimed that after this episode has made AIUDF stronger and the party will get at least 5-7 seats more than the expected 25 seats in the coming assembly elections.

Mr. Ajmal also claimed that it was his support to the VC of Deoband Maulana Ghulam Muhammed Vastanavi during his election which also became an immediate reason for Mr. Arshad Madani to sack him.
