The other parties in the SDF are Kerala Dalit Panthers (KDP), Republican Party of India (RPI), People’s Green Party (PGP), Left Bahujan Forum (LBF) and Secular National Dravida Party (SNDP), which are lesser known. Mr Ram Vilas Paswan released the election manifesto handing over a copy to AP Ibrahim Kutty, chairman of Samoohika Pinnakka Munnani.

The alliance was formed upon a common minimum programme which includes land to the landless, social security including housing, healthcare, education and employment to all, reservation in private sector and judiciary, reservation to Dalit Christians and Muslims, women’s reservation in Parliament and legislature, protection of human rights, etc. The Front aims at a corruption-free government with inclusive development based on social justice and ecological sustainability, according to reports.

Though the alliance is presently in Kerala only, Mr Pawar said that they would try to extend it to Tamil Nadu and West Bengal after holding talks with parties there. The SDF and the SDPI will support each other in the constituencies each contests in Kerala. The candidates of the SDF will contest on the symbol of the LJP and the SDPI candidates will contest on the symbol allowed to the party. The alliance has decided on the candidates to 110 constituencies. The SDPI would contest 90 seats. (The party had earlier announced to contest in 98 seats.)

Abdul Khaliq, Prof OK Yadav, VI Bose, K Ambujakshan, Asmal Ahmed Khan and Mehaboob also attended the press conference representing different parties in the SDF.
