Mecca Masjid case: Welfare Party welcomes NCM’s recommendations

By TCN News,

New Delhi: The Welfare Party of India (WPI) has appreciated the recommendations of National Commission for Minorities (NCM) in the Mecca Masjid blast case. Dr. SQR Ilyas, General Secretary of WPI, said the recommendations “will do a lot to heal the wounds.” NCM chief Wajahat Habibullah this week sent three recommendations to Andhra Pradesh government.

The NCM has recommended compensation to the 21 boys wrongly implicated in the Mecca Masjid blast case, action against the police men who tortured and framed them and award of character certificate to the boys to enable them to “return to normal life.”

Dr. Ilyas said that though the amount of Rs. three lakh is in no way a true compensation to the physical torture, psychological harm and mental harassment afflicted on the youth, the other recommendations will do a lot to heal the wounds.

The WPI has asked the State and Central Governments to take the responsibility of and ensure proper and complete rehabilitation of the youths and not to wash off their hands by awarding peanut amounts.

Dr. Ilyas observed that the recent ruling of the Supreme Court to hang policemen found guilty of fake encounters and the NCM recommendation to take action against policemen torturing and framing innocent boys are the result of persistent campaign by human right organization and hoped that violation of human rights by state instruments will cease to a great extent.
