Guwahati: Unhappy at the things done by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government so far at New Delhi, India’s northeastern state of Assam’s main regional political party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has urged the government to make public the details of the External Affairs Minister Sushma Sawraj’s Bangladesh visit suspecting it’s dual stand.
AGP alleged that the BJP led government has undertaken certain things which might put the region into trouble so they want to know the details of the Bangladesh tour of India’s External Affairs minister.

AGP leaders talking to the reporters in Guwahati.
AGP working president Atul Bora said that the BJP government has been maintaining a dual standard as far as their agenda towards the state and the region is concern.
“We want the details of Sushma Sawraj’s Bangladesh visit to make public. We are worried with the works of the NDA government. She seemed to have given green signal to the land swap deal and to allow multiple entries to the Bangladeshi nations who are below 13 years and above 65 years of age,” said Bora.
Earlier, various organizations in the state had strongly opposed the proposal of the central government to allow Bangladeshi national who are below 18 years and above 65 years to the country without visa. Various organizations including political parties said that as the state is already plagued by the burden of illegal citizens of the neighbouring country such moves can make the situation even worst.
BJP drew more criticism as because, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his fellow party leaders have been advocating in making the state free from the Bangladeshi nationals before the elections. The saffron party is being condemned for its dual stand towards this sensitive issue.
The situation is same with the land swap deal. The BJP was seen opposing the deal since the initial days but Sushma Sawaraj’s recent visit has left everybody shocked.
The land agreement was signed during then Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Dhaka in 2011, the protocol to the 1974 land boundary demarcation between the two countries. In this agreement, the issue of exchange of ‘adversely possessed land’ in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and West Bengal along with the India-Bangladesh border was finalized.
According to the deal Assam will get 397.50 acre land from Bangladesh, while the state will part with 267.5 acre.
Bora also alleged that in the process to make happy the neighbouring country, the government is going against the interest of the people of the region. He also urged the local MPs of BJP to stand for the sake of the people in the region.
“Before the election BJP had a different stand and now they are behaving in an opposite way. We are concern at their behaviour. BJP has no problem with dams which will harm the people of the state besides the price hike. They have totally ignored us,” he added.
Meanwhile, with the artificial flood in the city killing 12 people on two days, AGP has appealed the central government to address the problem.
AGP general secretary Kamalakanta Kalita said that as the ruling Congress party in the state has misused the funds meant for the solution to the flood problem, the central government should take care of it.
“Because of the negligence of the state government the people have been suffering like hell. Day by day we have seen that the problems are increasing. We expect the NDA government will shortly address it,” Kalita said.
AGP has also termed the rampant earth cutting in the hills as one of the major causes for the problem.
