Mumbai : The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has condemned in strongest possible terms the reported threat of the United States Republican Party Presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo that the US should strike Islamic holy places, including Makkah and Madinah.
In a telegraphic message addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, IUML president GM Banatwala said, "The threat is highly provocative with serious worldwide repercussions and is in blatant violation of international code of conduct. The suggested heinous state terrorism is a challenge to democratic civilized world and particularly to Muslims all over the world."
The IUML president has the Government of India to lodge a strong protest with the US Government.
Commenting on President Bush's silence on this provocative issue, Banatwala said in a statement here Monday, "On an earlier statement emanating from the United States, President Bush had assured Pakistan that Washington respects Pak's sovereignty and there is no question of strike inside Pakistan in pursuit of Al Qaida, but he is silent on his party Presidential candidate's unfortunate statement."
