New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday asked the Left parties, which support the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) from outside, to back up their criticism of the India-US nuclear deal by voting against it in parliament.
“The Left parties oppose (the deal) only in a gesture of tokenism. There is a vast difference between their speeches and actions,” BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said.
“They only bark, they don’t bite. Now if they want to establish their credibility they should state which side they would vote. The Left is now put on a test whether they really mean what they say,” he said.
He was responding to the Left parties’ statement Tuesday that they were “unable to accept” the 123 agreement.
The Left, however, has not spelt out their strategy for the monsoon session of parliament beginning Friday in which the main opposition BJP is set to corner the government on the nuclear deal.
