New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesday arrested two central excise inspectors for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.200,000 from a factory owner in the capital.
Someshwar Thakur and Suvinder Kumar Sahgwan, posted at the Janakpuri branch, were arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs.200,000 as first instalment of a total bribe of Rs.500,000 from the owner of a factory manufacturing VCDs and DVDs in Mayapuri in southwest Delhi.
“The duo asked him to pay the bribe money and threatened that he would be booked under the Excise Act if their demand was not met. Finally it was agreed that Rs.200,000 was to be paid as first instalment,” the CBI said here in a press statement.
“Following a complaint from the victim, a trap was laid to arrest the accused. Searches were also conducted at the residential premises of both the inspectors,” the statement added.
