Balasore : Train services of the South Eastern Railway (SER) were disrupted Monday as railway tracks were submerged at several places in Orissa and West Bengal following three days of heavy downpour.

While two trains were cancelled, one each to Balasore and Kharagpur, two trains were halted, railway officials said.

Rainwater submerged tracks at Kontai in Midnapur district of West Bengal and Pakharbad and Narayangarh in Balasore district of Orissa Monday morning. While up lines in these places were fully submerged, down lines were partially affected.

“We had to terminate the Bhubaneswar-Howrah Janashatabdi Express at Balasore and 216 Kharagpur-Balasore passenger was cancelled at Kharagpur.

“The Bhadrak-Howrah Baghajatin passenger was detained at Jaleswar, the Jajpur-Kharagpur local was halted at Basta,” Balasore station manager K.C. Mallick said.

This apart, several trains were running at least an hour late as they were being moved through the down line.
