Flood situation grim in Bihar

Patna, Aug 19 (IANS) The flood situation continued to remain grim in Bihar Sunday as the death toll reached 325 and thousands of marooned people complained of inadequate relief supplies.

At least 10 people went missing in Khagaria district Sunday when a boat carrying 30 people capsized in a swollen river. Officials said 20 passengers manage to swim to safety.

Angry flood victims protested at several places against the lack of relief materials, particularly of food grains, drinking water and medicine. Over 15 million people have been affected by the floods in 20 of the 38 districts of the state.

But state government’s disaster management department claimed there was no shortage of relief materials and the government was distributing relief on war footing.

The local meteorological office has predicted more rains in many flood-hit areas of Bihar.
