New Delhi : A young man was crushed to death and other injured when a speeding Blueline bus late Tuesday hit the motorcycle they were riding, police said.
Charian Das, 24, came under the wheels of the bus when it hit the motorbike coming from opposite side and threw him off the vehicle near the Bangla Sahib gurdwara.
The injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was stated to be in stable condition.
Police said the bus had been impounded but the driver and conductor had fled the spot.
“We have registered a case of negligence against the driver and a hunt is on to arrest him,” a police officer said.
There are nearly 4,000 privately operated Blueline buses in the capital and form a crucial part of its public transport system.
However, with little regard for passenger safety, over speeding and untrained staff, many of them have been involved in fatal accidents and come to be called “killer buses”.
These buses have already claimed 73 lives in the capital this year. Last year they were responsible for 100 deaths. A public uproar two months ago prompted the government to make them undergo fitness tests.
Buses of the state-run Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) have been responsible for 27 deaths this year.
