Over 7,000 children go missing in Delhi every year

New Delhi : The national capital records nearly 7,000 cases of missing children every year. However, a majority of them are traced, a report said.

At least 7,028 children, including 4,118 boys and 2,910 girls, went missing from the national capital in 2006, compared to 6,926 children, including 4,222 boys and 2,704 girls, in 2005, Minister of State for Home Affairs Radhika Selvi informed the Lok Sabha.

“Out of the 7,028 missing children in 2006, 5,462 kids were traced or recovered. In 2005, a total of 4,604 children were found,” she said.

The minister informed the house of the measures taken by the Delhi Police for child safety in the capital.

“The measures taken by police are regular briefing of staff to keep a strict vigil over intruders and criminals in areas – especially schools, colleges, railway stations and bus stations – maintenance of missing persons register in each police station and computerisation of missing persons squad,” she said.
