Shariatpur, Bangladesh : Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh, General Moeen U Ahmed today said the civil administration and the armed forces have been working together for ensuring proper implementation of the post-flood rehabilitation programme.
He said a total of Taka 2,000 crore has been earmarked this time for the post-flood rehabilitation work. In the past the allocation for rehabilitation was not properly used but now the money will be utilized fully.
General Moeen was addressing a meeting to exchange views with government officials, professionals and representatives of the civil society bodies at the Circuit House here.
Earlier, he distributed relief materials among the flood-affected people of the district on the local Water Development Board premises.
While exchanging views on the incidents that took place at different places including Dhaka on Aug 20, 21 and 22, General Moeen termed the incidents as a conspiracy of a quarter of corrupt and dishonest politicians to destroy the image of the government. But the government had dealt the situation with strong hands, he added.
He reiterated that the election will be held within December 2008 and said if the political leaders work for people’s welfare they will vote for them.
Urging upon all irrespective of their party affiliations or opinions to stand by the flood victims, General Moeen said the government, administration and the army have come forward to the aid of the flood victims, and relief has been reached to them.
“Inshallah, nobody will die of starvation or without medical treatment,” he said adding appropriate measures have been taken to provide medical services during the flood and post-flood period.
Calling upon the farmers to start cultivation on their lands with new vigour and enthusiasm, he said to overcome the losses, caused by the floods, the government would provide all possible help.
