Mosul, Iraq : The body of a kidnapped Iraqi professor was found in Mosul City in the northern province of Nineveh, a provincial police source said on Sunday. ”
The body of Abdul Qadir Ali Abdullah, a lecturer for Arabic department in Mosul university, was found dumped in the al-Intisar neighborhood in eastern Mosul on Saturday,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Five days ago, unknown gunmen kidnapped the 38-year-old professor near his house in the nearby al-Quds neighborhood in the city, the source added.
Mosul, the capital city of the predominantly Sunni province of Nineveh, is some 400 km north of Baghdad.
Thousands of high-profile Iraqi professionals have left the country for fear of persistent violence and sectarian strife in the war-torn country since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
