More Metro trains to tackle Raksha Bandhan rush

New Delhi : The Delhi Metro will keep six more trains on standby on Tuesday to cope with the Raksha Bandhan rush.

“Six extra trains, two trains on each line, would be kept on standby and would be inducted depending upon requirement,” Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chief communications officer Anuj Dayal said here Monday.

Dayal said more staff and token counters would be made available to handle the rush.

“The Metro trains would start running at a peak frequency of 4 minutes from 8 a.m., which could continue till 8.30 p.m.

“Additional staff would be deployed at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates of Shahdara, Welcome, Seelampur, Shastri Park, Rithala, Indraprastha and Uttam Nagar (West) to manage the extra crowd and facilitate quick movement of passengers through the gates. More token counters would also be opened at these stations depending upon need,” he said.

Dayal said additional maintenance facilities and workers have been asked to remain on standby at several major stations to attend to any repair or breakdown.

Delhi Metro, the modern mass transit system of Delhi, ferries over 525,000 passengers a day over its 65-km network.
