Agartala : A paramilitary trooper of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) was shot dead and another wounded Monday in an ambush by tribal separatists in Tripura, officials said.
A police spokesman said heavily armed militants of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) attacked TSR troopers guarding railway construction workers at Mungiakami village, 75 km west of here.
“Rifleman Jayanta Roy was killed on the spot and another trooper wounded in the attack,” police official Nepal Das said.
The rebels later decamped with a self-loading rifle and a large cache of ammunition from the dead trooper.
“The militants managed to escape even as other troopers retaliated,” the official said.
