Hyderabad : Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), the apex body of engineering exporters in India, is organising a three-day meet here next January to create an exchange platform for the global industry seeking the latest engineering products from India.

S. Rakesh Shah, chairman, EEPC, told a news conference here Friday that the India Engineering Meet and Exhibition (IEME) would be held Jan 9-11.

“The event will also play a leading and enabling role in bringing all the innovative technologies together to achieve a modern and technology oriented manufacturing industry in India,” Shah said.

To coincide with the event, a two-day global conference on engineering process outsourcing (EPO) will also organised.

IEME 2008 will showcase at least 100 Indian manufacturers and exporters, primarily from the small and medium enterprise sector, and more than 60 exhibitors from overseas who will display their products.

The event will highlight India’s most innovative and dynamic technology companies seeking to offer engineering solutions to the global industry.

“Exhibitors will have the opportunity to meet many overseas buyers to launch new products, to identify new agents and distributors and demonstrate technological developments,” Shah said.

Referring to the strategy paper commissioned by the council, he said the potential of the Indian EPO market is estimated to be $30 billion by the year 2015.

Shah noted that there was a major requirement for introduction of innovative, efficient and cost effective manufacturing techniques for the Indian industry as manufactured goods constitute 75 percent of India’s total exports and the sector was one of the biggest employment generators and wealth creators in the country.

The first IEME was organised in January this year in New Delhi. It was attended by nearly 300 foreign buyers and orders worth almost $20 million were booked for outsourcing engineering goods from India.

The Engineering Export Promotion Council is a body of nearly 13,000 members. Of this, 60 percent belong to SME sector.
