Bhubaneswar : The Orissa government has served a show cause notice on suspended Home Guards Director General of Police Bidya Bhusan Mohanty for misconduct and remaining absent without taking leave.
Mohanty was suspended last week after a Rajasthan police official formally requested the state government to arrest him and his son Bitti Hotra Mohanty, who has jumped parole after being convicted for rape in Alwar.
The official had handed over a non-bailable warrant issued by a Rajasthan court against the senior Mohanty.
The Jaipur court had issued the warrant for abetting the escape of his son, Bitti Mohanty.
Police officer Mohanty has been absent from work since than. The Orissa government has formed six teams of police officials to trace Mohanty and his son.
“Now we have issued a show cause notice asking him (Mohanty) to reply within 30 days time why action cannot be taken against him for remaining absent without taking leave,” a home department official told IANS.
“If he fails to reply, we will take departmental proceedings against him under law,” he said.
Bitti Mohanty was sentenced to a seven-year jail term last year for raping a German tourist at Alwar in Rajasthan. He jumped parole in November.
A case was registered against senior Mohanty in Rajasthan for allegedly sheltering his son and concealing facts about him.
On June 8, a lower court in Rajasthan issued a bailable warrant against Bitti and an arrest warrant against his father. It gave the police time till July 7 to carry out the orders.
Mohanty had filed a petition in a Jaipur court seeking to convert a non-bailable warrant against him into a bailable one. The court had rejected the petition.
