New Delhi(IANS) : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday welcomed a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into the ethnic rioting in Guwahati Nov 24 that left one person dead and around 250 injured.
“The present explosive situation in Assam and could be used by miscreants to re-ignite violence. So there is an urgent need to defuse the tension and resentment among various ethnic groups,” said BJP National President Rajnath Singh in statement released here.
Meanwhile in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said: “I don’t want to hide anything. Police lapses are there. Definitely there were some lapses.”
“The tribals have demanded a CBI probe. The CBI has a machinery to delve deep into the incident. I’ll see to it that the agency takes up the inquiry and finishes its investigations as soon as possible,” Gogoi told reporters.
