New Delhi : The ministry of new and renewable energy will provide all help, support and co-operation if special economic zones (SEZs) are set up for the manufacture of renewable energy equipment, Minister of State for Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar said here Monday.
The minister was replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of parliament.
States like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have evinced interest in hosting such SEZs, Muttemwar told the house.
The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) has proposed to set up a special purpose vehicle for setting up, maintaining and managing a SEZ for production of renewable energy equipment.
The IREDA is in the process of discussing the issue with state governments and private sector parties.
