Patna : A controversial legislator of Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) Monday allegedly abused and threatened to kill the superintendent of Sasaram jail, where he is at present lodged and refused to follow the jail rules.

Sunil Pandey, a criminal-turned-legislator, facing dozens of criminal charges including for murder, kidnapping, extortion and looting, allegedly threatened Superintendent Sanjay Chaudhary for his move to strictly implement the jail manual.

“JD(U)legislator Sunil Pandey threatened to kill Sasaram Jail Superintendent Sanjay Chaudhary Monday evening for his move to strictly follow jail manuals,” the police said Tuesday.

Police sources in Rohtas district administration said a case for obstructing a public servant in performing his duty and issuing threats has been registered against Pandey.

“Chaudhary lodged an FIR stating that Pandey threatened to kill him,” police sources said.

Chaudhary in his police complaint stated that Pandey forcibly entered his official chamber shouting at him and refused to follow the jail manual.

“Pandey threatened to kill me,” Chaudhary said.

Pandey is languishing in the jail for the last one year for allegedly demanding extortion money from a senior official of the Hyderabad-based Vijay Electricals Ltd, engaged in rural electrification work in Aurangabad district.

Pandey, who represents Piro constituency in Bhojpur district, allegedly has links with Ranvir Sena, a banned private militia of Bhumihars, a landed upper caste. Pandey himself is a Bhumihar.

This was not the first time Pandey, a terror in his assembly constituency, openly flouted rules. Last year he threatened to kill an official of a Patna based five-star hotel.

His party had suspended him in August last year for mocking Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ‘good governance’ claims.
