Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested two top Hizbul Mujaheedin (HM) militants, including the outfit’s operational commander, during raids in Srinagar and Sopore towns.
Police sources said Wednesday that HM operational commander Gazi Misba-ud-Din was arrested from the uptown Batmallo locality here Tuesday while Hizbul’s divisional commander Muzaffar Ahmed alias Tajamul was arrested in raids in Sopore town.
However, top state police officers refused to immediately confirm the arrests.
Gazi is the senior most commander of HM active in Kashmir. The supreme commander of the outfit, Syed Salah-ud-Din is based in Muzaffarbad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
“This is the biggest achievement of the year,” a police officer said. He said more raids were conducted in North Kashmir Baramulla and south Kashmir Anantnag towns.
“Some more arrests were made during the raids, but we don’t have details immediately,” another police officer said.
