Ilam (Iran) : President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Wednesday called the US intelligence report on Iran’s nuclear activities victory for Tehran’s stand and a “final blow to all ill-wishers” of the country.
“The report proved legitimacy of the Iranian nuclear activities,” Ahmadinejad said addressing a large rally in the western Iranian city, official news agency IRNA reported.
The US National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) Monday said in a report that Iran halted an atomic weapons programme in 2003, contradicting Washington’s charge that Tehran has been actively seeking nuclear weapons.
“The report said clearly that the Iranian people were on the right course,” Ahmadinejad said, adding that Iran “has become a nuclear country and the world has accepted the fact”.
The NIE report comes at times when Washington has been pushing for new sanctions in the face of resistance from Russia and China. The report could play an important role in deciding whether the UN sanctions on Iran were needed.
Meanwhile, Iran has reiterated its stand that it would not suspend its nuclear activities.
