Ankara : Seven inmates were injured after a fire broke out in a prison in the Turkish largest city of Istanbul Thursday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
The injured inmates were hospitalized to be treated for smoke inhalation after the fire broke out in Bayrampasa prison in Istanbul, Aykut Cengiz Engin, Istanbul chief prosecutor, was quoted as saying.
“An inmate who has psychological problems set ablaze his mattress and started the fire,” said Engin.
Engin ruled out the allegations that there was an uprising in the prison.
Meanwhile, doctors said that the inmates are in stable condition.
