Pakistan polls a plot against country: Imran

Islamabad : Pakistan’s cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said that Jan 8 elections was a conspiracy against the country.

Addressing lawyers at Gujranwala in Punjab Saturday, Khan, who heads the Pakistan Tahrik-e-Insaf (PTI) party, said those participating in the election were strengthening the hands of President Pervez Musharraf by legitimising his “illegal” acts, The News reported Sunday.

“Benazir Bhutto, who is making hue and cry over rigging in the elections, is also participating in the elections on the indications of the US,” Khan said.

Khan has refused to participate in the polls. He said the only demand of his party was the restoration of the judiciary to pre-Nov 3 status, when Musharraf, the then military president, imposed emergency in the country and sacked the judges who refused to take oath under the new Provisional Constitution Order (PCO).

Khan said those participating in the elections were equally involved in conspiracy against the country, adding the next National Assembly of Pakistan would be worthless like the previous one.
