Chandigarh(IANS) : The Punjab government Thursday announced that no new proposal for setting up nursing colleges will be considered till a new policy governing nursing institutions is framed and approved.
Medical Education and Research Minister Tikshan Sud said the government had decided to come out with a comprehensive policy on nursing institutions since they are coming up in large numbers.
In the last few years, the demand for nursing institutions has increased in Punjab following a surge in the number of nursing jobs available in the US, Britain and other western countries.
A large number of youth, particularly girls, are pursuing nursing courses to migrate to western countries.
Sud said Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration here has been asked to conduct a study on the requirements of nursing courses.
He said the courses would be tailored to suit market needs – both in Punjab and in foreign countries.
