NGOs In Yemen Strongly Censure US Embassy Banning Face-covered Women

SANA’A, Dec 14 (Bernama) — A number of Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in Yemen denounced Thursday decision of the US embassy in Sana’a of banning Islamically face-covered women to enter the embassy, Yemen news agency (Saba) reported.

In a meeting with the cultural attache in the embassy Rayne Julian, the US diplomat presented a justification over the incident of turning down request of a Yemeni female student, face covered, to enter the embassy for an interview for a study seat at the US embassy supported English institute, YALI.

“There are no personal grounds regarding this action and we apply these procedures not only in Yemen but in all US embassies across the world,” he justified.

Rayne voiced his respect for Islamic teachings and Yemeni traditions, saying that he personally does not mind to have conversations with face-covered women outside the embassy.
