Balasore (Orissa) : India Saturday tested surface-to-air nuclear capable ‘Akash’ missile from a defence base in Orissa for a third time in as many days, defence sources said.

The indigenous missile was tested from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur on sea, some 230 km from here, at 3.10 p.m. targeting a flying object flown a few minutes before from the same range, the sources said.

The missile hit the target successfully, the sources said.

The missile, which was also tested from the same range Friday and Thursday, uses the integrated two-stage RAMJET propulsion technology to carry a maximum 50 kg payload.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the missile, which weighs 650 kg and has a range of 25 km.
