Pakistan: 2,252 candidates for National Assembly seats in election 2008

Islamabad : Election Commission announced on Monday that after withdrawal of candidature, a total of 2,252 candidates are in the run for 272 seats of National Assembly whereas for the 577 provincial assemblies seats there are 5,083 candidates are in the field to contest Pakistan general elections 2008.

For the two National Assembly seats from Federal Capital there are 34 candidates in the arena.

For 148 NA seats from Punjab,there are 1,003 candidates in the fray, for 61 NA seats from Sindh there are 627 candidates are in the run, for 35 NA seats from NWFP there are 262 candidates, for 14 NA seats from Balochistan there are 143 candidates in the arena and for 12 NA seats from Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) there are 183 candidates.

For 297 provincial assembly seats of the Punjab there are 2311 candidates in the field, for 130 Sindh Assembly seats there are 1468 candidates, for 99 NWFP assembly seats as many as 763 candidates are in the run while for 51 Balochistan Assembly seats there are 451 candidates in the fray.

All the Returning Officers have despatched the lists of contesting candidates ,mentioning therein the names and the symbols of the contesting candidates,to the provincial election commissioners.
