Shimla : Minister for State for Foreign Affairs Anand Sharma Wednesday had to retreat Wednesday from a polling centre here because he did not have any identity card or document to prove his identity.

The official in charge of the polling booth in the heart of Shimla was unmoved when Sharma told him that he was a minister in the Manmohan Singh government.

Half an hour later, Sharma did procure an identity card from his house and was allowed to vote.

Sharma hails from Shimla and was even a Congress legislator from the Shimla seat in the 1980s. After that he has moved to New Delhi.
