New Delhi : College students keen to earn while studying can now enrol themselves into a tourism course, which will help them land jobs and also give them an insight into the booming industry.
The union tourism ministry Monday launched the training programme under its ‘Earn while you learn’ scheme with the primary aim to sensitise the youth about tourism.
A brainchild of Tourism Minister Ambika Soni, the main objective of launching the scheme is to inculcate tourism traits and knowledge among the selected trainees that will enable them to later work as student volunteers.
The first batch of 62 students began training Monday at the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, a premier institution that has its branches in Gwalior, New Delhi, Bhubaneshwar and Goa.
Students pursuing graduation or post-graduation in the age group 18-25 can apply for the 21-day programme after obtaining a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their college or university.
During the training, the students will be told about Indian society and culture, historical monuments, managerial and behavioural skills, etiquette, overview of the tourism scenario and public speaking.
After the training, all successful candidates would undergo a counselling session, where representatives of the tourism and travel trade industry will select the candidates for suitable jobs or assignments.
