Port of Spain : Former West Indies captain Brian Lara has expressed his desire to play for his domestic side Trinidad and Tobago, an official of Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) said.
According to the unnamed official, although, the Caribbean batting maestro has expressed his desire to play in the next year’s regional championships, he is yet to discuss the matter with the TTCB officials.
“At this point in time, it is a mere speculation. Nothing concrete has been discussed on this matter,” he said.
“After his return home, Lara is expected to meet the officials of the board. The details of his coming back into the Trinidad and Tobago side will be worked out only after the meeting.”
The board official, however, said that having Lara back in the squad would serve as a catalyst in motivating the youngsters, apart from assisting them tremendously with their game.
After a disappointing outing at the maiden edition of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) this month, the 38-year-old left-hander is expected to return home Thrusday, after which he would sit for discussions with the TTCB officials.
If the meeting bears fruit, Lara will be seen in action Jan 4 against Guyana in the Carib Beer Cup at the Queen’s Park Oval, here. His presence will also provide the much-needed boost to the Trinidad team that is missing the services of Daren Ganga, Dinesh Ramdin and Dwayne Bravo, who all are busy with the national team in South Africa.
