Kolkata : Altaf Ansari, a top member of the Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HuJI) militant group and wanted for several crimes in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from a house in Baranagar area of West Bengal, the police said Saturday.
Ansari was living in a house on the Cossipore Road in Kolkata for quite sometime, the police said.
“Earlier, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police had asked for help to capture the militant. A joint operation has led to his arrest at around 2 p.m. Friday,” Rajiv Kumar, director general of police (CID), told IANS Saturday.
“He is now being interrogated,” Kumar said. He will be produced in Alipur police court.
