Melbourne : India team manager Lalchand Rajput stood up for an off-from Rahul Dravid and said it is only a matter of time for the batsman to find runs.
“Well, I won’t say there is any technical problem; it is just in the mind. Because, when the batsman goes through a lean patch where he can’t get runs, he has to overcome that, and I am sure he will bounce back,” said Rajput.
Dravid, who resigned from captaincy in September to concentrate on batting, is going through a lean patch. With scores of five and 16 as a make-shift opener, in both the innings of the first Test, his horrid form is a worry for the Indian team.
“He is a tremendous cricketer and everybody knows that he is the Wall of the country, and it is only a matter of time that he is going through a lean phase,” said the team manager.
Asked whether it was a wrong decision to open with Dravid, Rajput said: “It was the team management’s decision and it has to be reviewed by the team management to see what is good for the team.”
Rajput also said that the team management would review the opening combination for the second Test. “We have to look at the wicket for the second test in Sydney and definitely we will re-look at the aspect because the options are open. And after having a look at the wicket we have to decide what we can do.”
