India ready to assist Pakistan to restore normalcy: minister

NEW DELHI, Dec 31 (KUNA) — India Monday stated that it was eager to assist Pakistan so that normalcy returns there following the unrest caused by the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. “India wants to see stability, peace, and democracy in its neighbourhood. Pakistan is passing through a difficult phase. New Delhi is ready to help Pakistan if asked to do so,” India’s Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal told reporters today at the Southern Indian city of Hyderabad, the news agency Press Trust of India reported. “We hope that Pakistan would return to normalcy with the people’s participation,” Jaiswal said. “India wants neighbouring countries to be progressive. But recent events in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar are a matter of concern for us,” the Minister stressed. “There are forces trying to create disturbances in India but their efforts would not succeed. Indian security forces are ready to thwart any designs to destabilise the country,” he asserted.
