Eight girl students killed in Pakistan

Islamabad : At least eight students of a girl seminary were killed when paramilitary forces opened fire on them in Islamabad on Tuesday, a spokesman for the seminary said.

A spokesman for Lal Masjid (red mosque) Abdul Qayyum said that the students were killed as the result of the firing from the security forces.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherapo said that one security man was also killed in firing from the students.

Fierce firing started when an armoured vehicle moved close to the mosque.

Qayyum said that one girl student of the seminary Jamia Hafsa was injured with bullet injuries. She is stated to be in critical condition in a local hospital, doctors said.

He said that 65 girl students fell unconscious due to tear gas.

The angry students burnt office of the Ministry of Environment located near the mosque.

The paramilitary troops had taken positions in government buildings and from there they were firing at the mosque direction.
