Bhubaneswar : Heavy rains are likely to occur at most places in north Orissa in the next 24 hours due to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, the meteorological office said here Wednesday.
According to a met department official, the low-pressure area that was formed Tuesday over northeast Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression and lay centred over the Bangladesh coast, about 270 km east north east of Balasore.
The low-pressure area is likely to move northwest, following which rains and thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over the northern and southern districts in next 24 hours, the official added.
A cautionary signal No.3 has been hoisted at Paradeep and Chandbali ports, he said.
Squally weather with wind from a north-westerly direction with speed reaching 50-60 km per hour is likely to prevail along the north Orissa coast and 45-55 km per hour along the state's southern coast.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture out to the sea as conditions are likely to be extremely rough.
