Thiruvananthapuram : Veteran politician and former Congress leader K. Karunakaran turned 89 Thursday.
His residence Kalyani, in Kerala's capital city, was abuzz with activity, with senior political leaders including Defence Minister A .K. Antony and Veerapa Moily calling on him to convey their best wishes.
Karunakaran, a four time former Kerala Chief Minister, parted ways with the Congress party in May 2005 and formed the Democratic Indira Congress – Karunakaran (DIC-K).
However, the party could win only one seat in the 2006 assembly elections and was later dissolved. Karunakaran is now in the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar.
