New Delhi : The control over media was neither desirable nor feasible by the administration because of the technologically advanced environment, a report by the second Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) has suggested.
The ARC, headed by former Karnataka chief minister Veerappa Moily, Friday said the administration should give immediate and accurate information to the media to ensure that there was no scope for speculative and sensational reporting.
"To ensure that government officials interact with the media in a professional manner, media management modules should be integrated in various training programmes," the report said.
"While maintaining public order is an important aspect of the state's effort to earn the approval of its people, people's perception regarding its ability to do so is equally important for the purpose of legitimacy…It is here that the positive role of the media comes into play," the report said.
The commission suggested that the government constitute cells at the district level for analysing media reports about public importance.
