Sharjah : Hamriyah Free Zone in Sharjah (HFZ) has been awarded the Gold Medal of the 9th International Symposium on Water in recognition of its achievements in water management and conservation.
Over 1500 delegates and experts from around 35 countries took part in the global event which was jointly organized by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Euro-Arab Research Network (EARN), the United Nations University and the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, reported news agency WAM.
The gathering was held this year under the theme "Water and City" and discussed the best practices to conserve and rationalise water use and tackle water pollution.
Rashid Al Alem, Director of HFZ, while receiving the medal said the award was an honour for the Arab company.
"The Award underlines HFZ's commitment to conservation and economy of water resources. Its water policy centres on delivery of the value added water supply for human consumption and investors at par with international standards," he said.
Alem, in a paper presented at the gathering, outlined the HFZ's business, water and environment strategies.
The conference recommended the UAE be lent top priority in terms of participation in the next edition of the symposium.
